What is Drama Therapy?

Drama Therapy is a creative form of psychotherapy that uses drama, play, role-playing, and storytelling to help individuals express themselves, process experiences, and develop emotional and social skills.

At SunDrama Education, we use drama therapy to support children and young people who may struggle with traditional forms of communication or classroom learning. Our approach is particularly effective for learners with:

  • Autism Spectrum Conditions
  • ADHD
  • Speech and Language delays
  • Emotional regulation needs
  • Trauma and anxiety

How does it work?

Through structured games, improvisation, role-play, and creative expression, children are encouraged to explore feelings and build confidence in a safe, supportive environment. Sessions may include:

  • Acting out real or imagined situations
  • Using puppets or masks to express emotions
  • Guided storytelling or role-swapping
  • Group collaboration or one-to-one work

Why choose Drama Therapy?

Drama Therapy is particularly useful for children who:

  • Find it hard to verbalise their emotions
  • Need help with self-regulation
  • Benefit from movement, expression, or creative thinking
  • Enjoy interactive or play-based activities

It promotes:
✅ Emotional resilience
✅ Confidence
✅ Social skills
✅ Imaginative development

At SunDrama, every session is tailored to the learner’s needs — blending therapeutic goals with joyful creativity.
